Welcome the New Year 2013 in Richmond
Richmond, the capital of Virginia, situated in the east of the country on the James River in a beautiful location at the foot of Mount Piedmont, is one of the oldest cities in the country. In 17th and 18th Century was not only a metropolis of tobacco, but also of slave trade. The city today is home to a number of historic buildings, especially at the Monument Avenue, and museums, including the Edgar Allan Poe Museum and the Museum of the Confederacy that attracts tourists and revelers. Another tourist destination is the area on the banks of the James River with parks, nature trails and bike paths. This includes the Belle Isle, which was formerly used as a prison island in the river. The town is also home to the Virginia Opera. Residents of Richmond are organizing some special events to usher in the New Year 2013 in a big way.
If you are looking forward to eat your way into the New Year, the Europa Italian Cafe & Tapas Bar is the place to be. It offers an all-you-can-eat buffet in the lounge including a bottle of champagne and drink specials. For those looking to dance into the New Year, head to NY Deli or to the Benefit Bash at Baja Bean or to the Bank and their underground club Vault for your New Year's Eve Party. They have music, DJs, food and a champagne toast. The biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations of all, with tens of thousands of people expected, will be in Richmond’s Carytown. Instead of a ball drop, there will be a ball rise at the Byrd Theatre.
