Welcome New Year 2013 in Mississippi

Located in the Southern USA, the U.S. state of Mississippi was initially laid claim to by France in 1699. After possession of the region changed hands (from British to Spanish rule), it finally became a part of the USA in 1783. The state got its name from the Mississippi River which comes from a Native American word meaning “great waters” or “father of waters”. The state of Mississippi is a popular tourists destination not only because of its plantations, antebellum mansions turned bed and breakfast inns, or Civil War battlefields but also because of its famous blues musicians and the taste of Mississippi soul food. Looking for something to do on New Year's Eve 2013? Look no further. Whether it's a gala, a dance party or an intimate dinner you seek, the state of Mississippi has got you covered.

In Horn Lake, there will be a New Year’s Celebration and Ball Drop at Latimer Park.  Festivities there include music, food, fireworks and fun.  You can ring in the New Year at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi at their New Year’s Eve Celebration.  The party is at the Hard Rock Live.  Trade in your coat for a cape, and rock on like a superhero while enjoying live music from Nervous Presley and DJ Hurricane Lloyd.  There will be a champagne toast and a midnight balloon drop. The annual “Having a Ball Downtown” New Year’s Eve block party is taking place in Columbus.  As the clock approaches midnight, watch the ball drop to bring in the New Year.  Crafted by Glenn Machine Works, the ball is lit with over 100 lights, is ten feet in diameter, and will descend from over 100 feet in the air.  This is a night you won’t want to miss!
