South West England; the best of the south-west for your New Year 2013

The South West is the largest region of England covering  23,828 km2 ( 9,200 sq mi) and comprising  Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The largest city is Bristol. Other major urban centers include Plymouth, Swindon, Gloucester, Exeter, Bath, and the South East Dorset conurbation of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. South West England is a beautiful place with lovely small villages and bustling cities like Bristol or Bath.  South West England is also blessed with four unique UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Stonehenge. You will be able to toast to the New Year 2013 after seeing some of the most splendid landmarks that the world has to offer.

Why not spend your New Year 2013 surfing on Cornwall’s beaches, or by tasting some of the traditional foods that South West England is well known for like Cheddar cheese, Cornish pasties or cider? Even in the small towns the people will be celebrating the New Year 2013. For instance on New Year's Eve, Looe in south east Cornwell has a large celebration. The small fishing town, usually quiet in winter, is host to an influx of visitors. People flock the streets in their hundreds, wearing fancy dress, a tradition upheld by all ages. The crowds begin the evening in the town and slowly move towards the seafront for a fireworks display, and the announcement of the New Year. So don’t always head for the big cities but rather check out what the whole of South West England has to offer.
